Vancouver, WA Seeks Attorneys for Public Defense RFP
April 17, 2025 | Erin Stewart

The City of Vancouver kindly invites you to review the attached Request for Proposals (RFP) for attorneys and firms interested in providing primary and/or conflict public defense services on behalf of the City. We offer contract terms ranging from one to three years, with a caseload volume tailored to align with an applicant’s capacity. The City offers a fixed fee of $475 per case, with an additional $1,000 bonus for cases that proceed to trial. We also cover case-related expenses, such as investigator fees, expert testimony, medical records, and drug testing.

Some key benefits of partnering with the City include:

  • Reliable, On-Time Payment – Our contracts provide predictable, consistent compensation. While the per-case rate may be lower than private work, the guarantee of timely payment adds financial stability to your practice.
  • • Dedicated Point of Contact – I personally ensure that you’ll receive prompt responses to invoices and quick resolution to any questions or concerns, making the process as smooth as possible.
  • • Flexible Case Load to Fill Scheduling Gaps – Public defense cases can help keep your practice running efficiently by filling in slower periods when private client intake is less predictable. You are welcome to adjust the number of cases you accept throughout the year as it suits your schedule.
  • • Valuable Courtroom & Trial Experience – These cases offer opportunities to gain or maintain courtroom experience, which can be especially beneficial for newer attorneys in your practice looking to build litigation skills.

This is not an exclusive opportunity; we will work with multiple attorneys and firms to meet ongoing case needs. The deadline for applications is May 14th. Vancouver hopes that you will consider applying, and we wish you a pleasant spring.
